Bypassing the healthcare system to get hold of medicines?

You could be putting yourself in RealDanger.

The statistics from recent UK surveys show that more and more people are putting themselves in danger from buying fake pills - it is estimated that 50% of medicines purchased over the internet (from illegal sites that conceal their physical address) are counterfeit. People buy medicines in this way because they think they are getting cheaper drugs, faster delivery, a better choice - in fact they're taking a real gamble with their health. Counterfeit medicines can be dangerous. Fake pills could make you very ill.

Proper medical treatment starts with a well-informed medical diagnosis. GPs have the knowledge and experience to look for certain medical conditions when patients present specific symptoms. A GP will take into account the suitability of treatment, your life stage and medical history, before deciding which medicine is best for you.

About ManMOT

Man MOT (www.manmot.co.uk) is the UK’s first online surgery set up exclusively for men. Our fully qualified GPs can discuss specific aspects of your health but if you’d just like to find out about other health topics, simply take a look around the site.

In addition to more general health clinics with our GPs, specialist sexual health and relationship sessions are hosted by sex and relationship expert Tracey Cox and Relate counsellors.

Man MOT was created as statistics show that men are less likely to visit their GP than women if they have a health concern and can often worry about wasting their doctor’s time, but by not seeing a GP, serious health conditions could be going undetected and undiagnosed. Our GPs can talk to you about any health problem, suggest the best course of action to take, and direct you to appropriate health services if needed.

The Man MOT GPs do not have access to your medical records and are not able to perform a clinical examination and so they cannot give individualised medical advice or offer a specific medical diagnosis.

Man MOT is funded by Pfizer and supported by Diabetes UK, Family Planning Association, HEART UK, Men's Health Forum, National Obesity Forum, Relate and Sexual Advice Association.

British men may be wasting over £500 million per year by refusing to ask for help

It really does 'pay to ask' as British men may be wasting over £500 million per year on everyday tasks because they don't get help when it's needed most, according to our new research.

Over half (62%) of the men surveyed admit to getting lost whilst driving because they didn't ask for directions, at an estimated cost of £175 million in fuel every year. A third (33%) of men surveyed admit to having made a DIY problem worse by trying to fix it, and then calling-in a tradesman for emergency repairs at an estimated cost of nearly £340 million, despite almost half (45%) of men surveyed thinking they have 'tools for fingers'.

Men are reluctant to ask for help, including asking for health advice from GPs, and over a third of men (34%) admit they would rather solve a problem on their own. Because of a 'superhero' attitude, over a third (36%) of men surveyed think they don't need advice from a doctor. More than half (51%) have ignored feelings of ill health leading to 1 in 5 (22%) having to take time off work. Find out more here.
